Kristen is a former school theater choreographer and stay-at-home-mom who has enjoyed creating a new life for herself as her nest begins to empty. She originally received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has recently received a Master’s degree in Teaching Writing from Johns Hopkins University. She is certified in Narrative Focused Trauma Care and Mental Health First Aid. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing with an emphasis on Narrative Medicine. She has 3 kids and has been married to her husband, Jon, for over 30 years. She enjoys writing, playing tennis, teaching choreography, volunteering as a teacher of English as a Second Language, hanging out with her kids, and embarking on new adventures. She travels frequently to Uganda and is a proud founder of Together East Africa, a nonprofit organization which empowers East Africans with big dreams for changing the lives of those in their communities. She has a rotten but cute dog named Mitzi who charms the world with her eye patch and smile. Kristen has written in secret since writing her first “book” in 5th grade but is working on becoming brave enough to put some of her writing out to a slightly larger audience. She loves being creative, trying new things, and working with students of all ages.
